Care and Cleaning Guide

Sunbrella® and Sur Last® fabrics are made to withstand the outdoors and require minimal maintenance.

Proper care can make your canopy last even longer.

Basic Care / Light Cleaning

Sunbrella® & Sur Last®

  1. Remove any loose dirt/debris.
  2. Rinse the canopy fabric with water.
  3. Mix 2 ounces of dish soap to 1 gallon of warm water.
  4. Use a soft bristle brush to scrub the canopy with the dishsoap/water mixture and let it soak into the fabric.
  5. Rinse the fabric with cold water until the soap has been removed and let air dry.

Tough Stains & Mildew

Our awning fabrics do not promote the growth of mildew, but mildew may grow on dirt or debris left sitting on the canopy. A degreaser may be necessary for roof run off or other similar stains.

This chart contains our recommended cleaning methods of Sunbrella® fabric for common stains. For best cleaning results, stains should be cleaned as soon as they occur. Set-in stains may require professional cleaning. After cleaning with the below solutions, always rinse fabric thoroughly.

Sunbrella®

  1. Mix 1 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup of dishsoap with 1 gallon of water.
  2. Apply the bleach/soap/water solution to the affected area and allow to soak for 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse the fabric with cold water until the soap has been removed and let air dry.
  4. Repeat these steps if stain persists.
  5. Apply a fabric treatment solution (such as 303 High Tech Fabric Guard) to the bleached area to restore the water repellent coating.

Sur Last®

  1. Mix up to 1 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water.
  2. Spray the bleach/water mixture onto the stain on the face (top side).
  3. Rinse immediately after application.
  4. Repeat these steps if stain persists.
  5. Apply a fabric treatment solution (such as 303 High Tech Fabric Guard) to the bleached area to restore the water repellent coating.

303 Fabric Guard

After scrubbing a canopy with soft-bristle brush and harsher solution for tough stain removal it is recommended to re-treat the fabric for water repellency and protection.

Both Sunbrella® and Sur Last® recommend 303 Fabric Guard

  1. Clean the canopy fabric following the directions above and let air dry completely.
  2. Apply 303 outside or in a well-ventilated area.
  3. Follow method according to the instructions on the bottle.
  4. Apply a single light coat to the area of the canopy fabric that was scrubbed. Let dry completely.
  5. Apply a second light coat to the same area.
  6. 16 ounce bottle can be used for up to 75-100 sq. ft.
