TEST TAKING FEATURE

The device also includes a test-taking feature to switch off when taking a test at school, so the student will not have anymore access to the dictionary but will still be able to use the pen to discern words and phrases. It is excellent for students with reading problems like dyslexia. The reading pens can spell out words and split them in syllabus. It is voice activated and it comes with earphones. You can listen to the word itself, the sentence or the definition; you can also visualize the scanned sentence or word, written on the screen. You can turn the sound off and on and you can adjust the speed of speech if desired. Your pen comes with earphones but you can also plug it into speakers if needed. It has an option for left and right-handed users. Scanning can be done from left to right but also from right to left. It doesn't make any difference; the pen reads and displays the sentence in the correct order. I personally prefer to scan from right to left because my hand doesn't hide the sentence I am scanning; it is very easy and convenient. I am right handed. If you are left-handed you may prefer scanning from left to right.

RECOMMENDED FOR ALL READERS

It saves you from searching a word in a dictionary as you read. It is fast and easy. You scan the printed text and you get an instant definition of the word you are looking for. It is extremely convenient since your reading flow is not interrupted. We all know how sometimes we just continue our reading skipping an unfamiliar word because we feel too lazy to look it up in the dictionary.

ESL STUDENTS LIKE HAVING A TEACHER WITH YOU AT ALL TIME

It is an excellent tool to learn English. You can see the word; listen to the pronunciation of a word or of a complete sentence. If you speak Spanish you can look for the Spanish translation as well since the reading pen has a Spanish dictionary included.

IMPAIRED VISION IT COULD BE FOR YOU

The Reading pen allows people with impaired vision to read independently any printed text. You scan the sentence and the pen will read it aloud for you. You should be able to see clearly the line you want to scan even though you cannot see well enough to recognize and read the words. It would not be useful if you could not see well enough to follow and scan in a straight line the printed text.

CLASSROOM USE BECOME A LIFELONG READER

In a classroom setting, the Reading Pen is an excellent learning device that can help children deal with problems associated with reading difficulties and disabilities. Many children do not understand a word as they are reading it but when they hear it pronounced, 99% of the time they do recognize the word. It is fun to use and children love using it since they embrace technology. It is much more fun than needing to grab a dictionary and search for a definition. Very young children have difficulties searching in a dictionary anyway; they don't have that problem using the reading pen. It helps them read a book alone, listen to the words, listen to their definition, the pen can also spell a selected word and split that word in syllabus if desired. Users can see and hear at the same time what the screen displays. It is like having a personal teacher helping all along. Children are very exited to play with this electronic tool and they benefit a great deal from it. It gives them a big head start and a positive attitude towards reading and learning. It gives the opportunity to all children even to those who will never develop the ability to read independently, to become a lifelong reader and learner. A positive attitude and a lot of fun are keys.

TEACHERS LOVE IT SPECIAL FEATURE FOR EXAMS

Teachers love it! The reading pen has a great option loved by all teachers for exams. The teacher can lock the access to the dictionary and password it. Only the teacher will know the password so the student will not be able to access it. The student will still be able to scan the words, hear the scanned words read out loud and view the words in large font display in the screen. No definition will appear. To lock the dictionary of the Reading Pen: go to menu, selecting lock dict. Click "Access" select a 4-digit password and enter it. Don't forget to write it down since you will need it to unlock the dictionary.

WHAT THE READING PEN CANNOT DO

he reading pen cannot recognize handwritten text; it only works with printed text. Some of my customers ask me if the reading pen scan can through a screen like a computer screen, a tablet or a palm pilot screen for example. The answer is no; it can't. You have to print the text first to be able to scan it. If you have extremely impaired vision it would not work for you since you have to be able to see well enough to follow a line of text. The Reading pen is not recommended for people with impaired fine motor control. The Reading Pen pronounces the English only, not the Spanish. It translates from English to Spanish but not from Spanish to English.
